The Docker Book

I’m pleased to announce I’m writing another book (I’m actually writing two but this is the only one I’m going to tell you about right now). Over the last few months I’ve been playing with Docker, and have been really impressed by how cleanly it provides awesome containers.

I’ve been largely using these containers as multiple stand-alone Puppet masters (make of that what you will :)) but I’ve also been looking at Docker containers as process jails and CI testing environments. Whilst the team at dotCloud doesn’t quite think the Docker project is ready for production prime-time I think it’s on the cusp. As a result I think it’s an ideal candidate for a new book.

So I’ve started writing the originally titled The Docker Book. It should be released in the next few months depending on how little sleep I can get away with. The tentative table of contents (subject to change) is:

1. Introduction to Docker
2. Installing Docker
3. First steps with Docker
4. Building services with Docker
5. Building your own PAAS with Docker
6. Building your own Docker containers
